Up early for a light breakfast and on to a small bus with 10 others for a tour to Nicaragua!
Told us it would be a full day and they were right. Over 14 hours, but it was amazing! Getting over the border was a bit of fun but our tour guide did all the paper work for us. Got across in about 20 min. Lots of security!!!
First we drove to the town of Rivas for a ride on this bike below and got a tour of how the local people live. Saw horse drawn carriages and of course got our bike driver to stop for a cervasa. The people are very friendly and taught us a lot about their country.
After our bike tour we carried on to Masaya National Volcano Park. We were dropped off at the top of the volcano and could look down inside to see the molten lava bubbling below. In 2015 there was a huge explosion at the volcano that threw rocks and hot lava on the cars in the parking lot, so the government closed it until May 2016. They decided since there hadn't been any recent activity (5 months) they would reopen it. The smoke from the burning lava made us cough but it was unbelievable to see. It was a bit eerie to think it could explode again at any time. They only let you stay there for about 15 min. (That is there safety rules) lol!!!

Next stopped in the city of Masaya for a typical Nicaraguan lunch!
No don't worry we didn't get married, but we did get a tour in a sweet horse drawn buggy covered in flowers. This is how we saw the city of Granada. Its the oldest city in central america and has many historical buildings. It was so clean. People sweeping the streets and sidewalks.
Following our tour of Granada and some shopping at market, we headed out on a boat tour on Lake Nicaragua to Monkey Island. We cruised around a bunch of small privately owned multi-million dollar islands. The islands are made from the lava beds from a eruption in the 1500s. The estates were amazing and now Mike is dreaming again. Saw so many tropical water birds and canary's etc. The scenery was breathtaking.
Well the best part for me was meeting Lucy. Yes another monkey story, (you can't get enough of them) lol We pulled up to the island and our tour guide had brought avocados. Lucy as he called her came on board and we got to feed her the fruit. There are four spider monkeys on this island. She was very friendly, I got to pet her and have her sit beside me while she ate. After about 10 min. she went back into the trees and we cruised on.

When our day was over just another stop at the border. This time it was quick and easy!!
Love Nicaragua!!!
